Albers’ Squares

Exploring color interactions

“Any ground subtracts from the colors which it carries and therefore influences.” — Josef Albers

Observing and appreciating the illusive and perceptive nature of colors through postcard sized compositions.

Taking inspiration from Albers’ Homage to the Square, engaging with this piece of artwork has helped me understand how the arrangement of hues can guide the viewer’s eye.

The movement of the eye could be inward or outward, to the center or away from it, depending on the use of hues. This gives a sense and feel of optical progression.
